THE PROCESS
We go the extra step to provide the best quality and satisfaction!
You may mail us your CD masters or data disks, or if you prefer, you may even upload files to the internet for us to download. We can use MP3s, WAVs, AIFs, zipped files, etc. in 16 or 24 bit quality. Once we have the music we will do a few "test cut" samples of a track or two and record them back into MP3 form to email you. This gives you a better idea of the sound you can expect from vinyl before we do any final cuts. Upon test cut approval we will quickly move ahead to final mastering of the lacquers, electro-forming the plated stampers, and pressing the test copies and then the final run.
A few details to consider when pressing records are track order,
record speed (45 or 33 1/3 RPM), duration, and gaps.
DURATION
Maximum play times per side:
23 minutes on a 12" at 33 1/3 RPM
9 minutes on a 7" at 33 1/3 RPM
15 minutes on a 12" at 45 RPM
6 minutes on a 7" at 45 RPM
(Of course several track gaps or the volume and phasing of
the music can cause these numbers to drop some)
Recommended play times per side:
Under 16 minutes on a 12" at 33 1/3 RPM
Under 6 minutes 7" at 33 1/3 RPM*
Under 12 minutes on a 12" at 45 RPM
Under 4 minutes on a 7" at 45 RPM
(*A 7" 33 1/3 RPM recording should only be used if completely
necessary due to inner groove quality constraints)
GAPS
As for the gaps, we can create both play time silence and/or visual spaces for track separation.
We can add a few seconds of silence in between tracks and/or even "bump" the lathe while mastering to give the listener a visual gap for track identification.
Here is an example of the difference between visual track separation and a constant cut:
